Without dissembling it will be tough to get grease worked all the way in there. . I would hit it with WD40

WD40 is a solvent, not a lubricant.

It also attracts dirt, dust, etc.
Where it lives is not the cleanest environment.

I think in order to truly do it right the whole assembly must come out. Once a year I shop-vac it with that narrow pin point nozzle. Lots of crud goes up the hose.
I use fishing reel lube on my carburetor linkage & works great.

I replaced (at different times) clutch & throttle cables but did not lube pedal assembly at all. Still moves freely, no binding or squeaking.

Good luck ... stay safe

If it's never been done you really should dismantle it for a serious clean and lube, maintenance afterwards could be a few drops of 3 in 1 oil every brake and valve adjust, or I like chain lube since it creeps in to tight spots.

You can drill a hole and put in a grease fitting.

Isn’t it curious VW thought the same thing right up through the late 50s came standard. You can put it in a vise and knock the pin out then pull it all apart to look for wear. There is a bushing to change but I never did one, just grabbed good used cause it’s cheaper😂 The best I’ve ever seen is a vendor here that rebuilds them to last forever and reinforces with gussets and can move the clutch pedal further from brake pedal for Bigfoot. The hook for clutch cable also catches wear and is replaceable comes as assembly.

I had my pedal cluster removed, knocked the pin out, and with a vice and a BFH still could never get the cluster apart. I opted to soak the holy sh*t out of it with WD-40. Call it a solvent if you want, but if you use it frequently, like annually, it will keep your pedals free, and not sticky. My Brake pedal spring rusted into toast and thus does not work, but with a super free pedal cluster it returns just fine

That's what I did when I cleaned and rebuilt my whole pedal cluster several years ago.

I had posted a pic of similar zerk fitting setup (in a basically identical query/thread which Frodge started few years back): https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=704851

I just give is a little shot of grease every now and then, basically whenever I've got the grease gun already out and handy -- e.g. when lubing the front axle beam, etc.

I did cleaning and maintenance of my 1970's pedals once in 52 years with it, in 2017 when it was 47 years old and 260+K miles. So I'd say every 45 years.

Following that guideline, I should do the pedal assembly on my 1971 too !

White lithium spray grease. A little goes a long way.
