5:03 p.m.:Madera bunts Van De Brake to third, recorded as a sacrifice. Man on third, one out.

5 p.m.:Van De Brake pinch hits and drives a double down the right field line. No outs, runner on second in the top of the ninth.

4:56 p.m. End top ninth:Great positioning for North Carolina's defense as it turns a ball hit right up the middle into a groundout. Tar Heels have the chance to walk it off or enter extra innings.

4:55 p.m.:Two straight fly outs to center field to start the top of the ninth.

4:52 p.m. End of eighth:Stevenson flied out to left field, ending the eighth inning.

4:48 p.m.:Another clean groundout, this one to shortstop as Virginia is cruising through the inning thus far.

4:46 p.m.:Quick groundout to second to start the bottom half of the eighth.

4:44 p.m.End top eighth:North Carolina gets three straight outs to end the top half of the inning.

4:40 p.m.:Godbout flies out to center to lead off the top of the eighth.

4:37 p.m. End of seventh:Hungate gets the groundout from Harper to short to end the inning. But it's a brand new ballgame in Omaha tied at two heading to the eighth inning.

4:33 p.m.:Blanco's day is done as Chase Hungate comes in to pitch for the Cavaliers. He leaves having gone 6.2 innings with two earned runs on seven hits and two walks. He had four strikeouts. He's responsible for the runner on second.

4:31 p.m. North Carolina scoring play:Cook drops a base hit into shallow left that drives hom Madera. Didawick tries to throw home but just winds up spiking it into the ground. It rolls to foul territory by the third base side, and Cook scoots up to second on the throwing error.Virginia 2, North Carolina 2

4:29 p.m.:Honeycutt works a nine-pitch AB, but ultimately grounds out on a changeup to short for the out. Madera stay at second. Cook, who has two hits already today, is due up.

4:24 p.m.:Little bit of small ball by North Carolina as Wilkerson lays down a nice sacrifice bunt to move Madera up to first. Honeycutt coming to the plate.

4:22 p.m.:Madera wastes no time slapping a base hit under the diving glove of Becker at third base for a first-pitch single.

4:20 p.m. End top seventh:Ference steals second to give Didawick, but Didawick strikes out two pitches later to end the inning. Blanco is heading back out for the seventh with Madera, Wilkerson and Honeycutt due up.

4:15 p.m.:Ference is hit by an up-and-in fastball. Didawick coming up with a runner on.

4:13 p.m.:Donofrio is staying busy out there in right. Fly balls from back-to-back batters in the span of three pitches find him for a pair of outs.

4:10 p.m. End of sixth:It's a hat trick for Osuna as he comes up empty on a changeup from Blanco.

4:07 p.m.:Gallaher rips a 1-1 breaking ball to left, but it's right at Diawick for the flyout. Stevenson then hits a liner of his own to right field, and this too is at Saucke for the out. Blanco is only at 75 pitches and just continues to roll along through this standout Tar Heel lineup.

4:05 p.m. End top sixth:Pence makes it look easy as he gets Anderson to ground out to first on one pitch to end the inning.

4:01 p.m.:With the switch-hitting Anderson due up, North Carolina is going to bring in relief ace Dalton Pence to swing him around to bat right-handed. Pence has a 2.04 ERA in 53 innings with 71 strikeouts to just 27 walks and a WHIP of 1.11.

4 p.m. Virginia scoring play:O'Ferrall drives Honeycutt to the right-center gap, but the speedy Tar Heel outfielder makes the grab. It's plenty deep enough to score Godbout and move Becker to third as Virginia takes the lead.Virginia 2, North Carolina 1

3:59 p.m.:Huge strikeout for Poston as he gets Whalen to chase an up-and-in fastball for the first out. Top of the order due up, and O'Ferrall is one of the toughest players in the country to strike out.

3:57 p.m.:Becker ropes a double to the left-field corner. Godbout holds at third, and the Cavaliers are cooking early with two runners in scoring position and no one out. Virginia has so far gone 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

3:56 p.m.:That's two straight inning the Cavaliers lead off the frame with a walk as Godbout lays off ball four.

3:51 p.m. End of fifth:The entire Cavalier team thought Blanco had caught Harber looking at strike three on a changeup inside. Instead, it was ruled ball four for a walk. But Donofrio bounces out to second on the next pitch to end the inning.

3:47 p.m.:Really nice defense by Ford at first base. Honeycutt tried to sneak a bunt down on the first pitch and it gets Ford far enough off the base that Honeycutt would've won the race to the bag. Instead, Ford dives at Honeycutt to make the tag just before he gets to the base for the first out. Blanco followed that up by a four-pitch strikeout of Cook for a quick two innings.

3:45 p.m. End top fifth:The Tar Heels work around the leadoff walk as Poston gets two flyouts followed by a groundout to first by Didawick.

3:44 p.m.:Ference makes it back-to-back loud flyouts. This one from Ference chased Donofrio back to the warning track, but he had just enough room to make the snag for the second out.

3:42 p.m.:Ford watched a 3-1 fastball down the middle, then made solid contact on the 3-2 pitch but flew out to center.

3:38 p.m.:That will be the end of the afternoon for DeCaro. Matt Poston, who has a 5.25 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 36 innings, is coming in to face Ford.

3:36 p.m.:Five-pitch walk to Saucke leads off the top of the fifth with Ford looming.

3:32 p.m. End of fourth:Wilkerson bounces out to short to end the inning.

3:28 p.m.:Blanco blows Osuna away with a fastball for a three-pitch strikeout. Madera then hits a grounder to short that results in a fielder's choice as Stevenson is out at second, but Madera reaches safely at first.

3:27 p.m.:Tar Heels get a leadoff baserunner as Stevenson lines a base hit into right field off a hanging curveball left in the zone. Nice left-on-left batting.

3:24 p.m. End top fourth:O'Ferrall lays off a 3-1 pitch that appeared to get in the zone, but it's ruled ball four. Anderson bounces into a fielder's choice to third to end the top half of the inning.

3:20 p.m.:Whalen comes up empty on a slider down and away for the second out. That's DeCaro's sixth strikeout of the day.

3:16 p.m.:Becker hits a hard grounder to second. The Tar Heels nab Godbout at second, but can't turn two for the double play.

3:15 p.m.:Godbout leads off the top of the fourth with a line drive single into center.

3:10 p.m. End of third:North Carolina fails to capitalize on Cook's double, ending the inning with a Donofrio popout and a Gallaher fly out ending the third inning.

3:05 p.m.: Cook makes solid contact again for the Tar Heels, sending a double into right field.

2:58 p.m. End top third, Virginia scoring play: And with a single fromFord, Virginia is on the board. Anderson scored, but Saucke held up at third. A strikeout from Ference ended the rally, but the game is tied heading into the bottom of the third.Virginia 1, North Carolina 0

2:45 p.m.:Luke Stevenson starts the bottom of the second inning with an infield single against Blanco, again putting pressure on the Virginia starting pitcher.

2:42 p.m. End top second: After working out of a jam in the first inning, DeCaro made quick work of the Cavaliers in the second, striking out Henry Godbout and Eric Becker and getting a groundout fromBobby Whalen.

2:35 p.m. End of first, North Carolina scoring play:Anthony Donofrio grounded out to second, but the at-bat proved productive nonetheless. The groundout sentCook home to put the Tar Heels on top beforea fly out byGavin Gallaher ended the inning.North Carolina 1, Virginia 0

2:25 p.m. End top first: And DeCaro works his way out of it. After nearly walking in a run, he blows his fastball past Harrison Didawick for another strikeout. DeCaro threw 30 pitches in a rough, but scoreless, first inning.

2:22 p.m.: DeCaro is struggling to locate his breaking pitches for strikes. JacobFerence battles back from an early deficit to work a walk. The bases are loaded and DeCaro has already thrown 25+ pitches in the first inning.

2:18 p.m.: Henry Ford drives a ball to deep right field ... and misses a home run but just a few feet. The runner moves up, giving Virginia first and third with two outs. DeCaro has a shot to get out of the inning without giving up any runs.

2:17 p.m.: Another walk has Virginia in business. They have first and second with one out. DeCaro is already at 15 pitches, though he did register the first out via strikeout.

2:11 p.m.:O'Ferrall is plunked by a 1-2 pitch from DeCaro to give the Cavaliers a leadoff baserunner.

2:10 p.m.:Griff O'Ferrall fouls off the first pitch from Jason DeCaro, and the College World Series has begun.
